Racial Healing Event: A Bridge over Troubled Waters, Today at 11
Did you know that the Tuesday after MLK Jr. Day is the National Day of Racial Healing? Hosted by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the National Day of Racial Healing is “a time to contemplate our shared values and create the blueprint together for #HowWeHeal from the effects of racism.” See more info here.
NOVA’s Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Campus Center is hosting a special virtual event today, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. “Racial Healing: A Bridge over Troubled Waters,” is inspired by the lyrics to the popular Simon & Garfunkel song. (Listen to the song and view the lyrics here.) Our guest speaker will be Yolonda Earl-Thompson, a local community healer and civic engagement advocate. Director of LAZERA Ministries, Yolonda works to connect people in her community with the resources and opportunities they need to unlock the essence of who they are, while also motivating them to lead healthy, well-balanced lives. Yolonda is no stranger to NOVA, as she assisted in our Healing Circle facilitator training program and continues to stay in touch with folks in our community.
Yolonda chose the title for our event because our collective racial history is like troubled waters. She writes: “Waters of guilt, shame, anger, rage, ignorance, pride, hopelessness … these waves are growing stronger and more out of control and threatening our ability to live in peace and unity. We must bring the bridge of healing into racial conversations.”
Yolonda will be in conversation with TRHT Advisory Committee members Jenn Bristow and Nigel Word for this collaborative event. Will you consider honoring the National Day of Racial Healing by attending this webinar? Click here to register via Zoom.
