Healthy Weight Week: Apply What You’ve Learned and Find Support Along the Way

January 26, 2024 / Get Well

Thank you for joining us during National Healthy Weight Week (January 21 through January 27). The last tips of the week are to apply what we know and to find support along the way.

What do we know?
Achieving a healthy weight is about starting where you are, using what you have and doing what you can. Incorporating Healthy Weight Week practices doesn’t have to be complicated or even time consuming. Small, consistent, sustainable lifestyle changes honor your body’s current abilities while tenaciously pursuing increased vitality and positive health improvements.

Remember that every individual’s body is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. It’s important to consult your medical provider/healthcare professional (who knows your health history) while you explore a balanced approach that aligns with your overall wellbeing, considers your health conditions and is rooted in evidence-based strategies.

The strategies are:

  • healthy, mindful eating;
  • regular physical activity;
  • stress management/coping techniques;
  • positive body image; and
  • restorative sleep.

Find Support Along the Way
It takes time — certainly more than a week — to make a permanent, lifelong change, but change won’t happen if we don’t get started. Consider using this awareness-raising week as an opportunity to refresh your healthy weight goal or any related wellness goals.

You don’t have to do it alone.

  • Your OEWW is here to support your efforts to renew/refresh your wellness goals.
  • Consider enlisting the help of your family, friends and colleagues; they can help keep you accountable and committed.
  • TimelyCare offers a new service — Health Coaching!
  • Health insurance providers like Anthem and Aetna also offer health coaching to eligible full-time state employees. Increase your familiarity with your NOVA employee benefits plan. Use their tools, incentives and offerings to help you stay well. For more information, please contact benefits@nvcc.edu.

Happy Healthy Weight Week!
