Nighthawks Host Esports Spring Kickoff Workshop, Offer a Sense of Belonging
The NOVA Esports program opened up the 2024 return to campus with a dynamic Nighthawk kickoff workshop, marking the start of the spring semester of competitive gaming. Over 30 students attended, with team-based exercises, social activities and free-play sessions. These gatherings serve as invaluable opportunities to not only introduce new players to each other but also foster a strong sense of belonging and identity among our participants as respected members of our collegiate esports program. Such events play a vital role in strengthening camaraderie and cohesion within our esports community, setting the stage for a successful and fulfilling season ahead.
NOVA Esports prides itself on winning traditions and a close-knit community, having won six national championships in the NJCAAE for Valorant, Rocket League and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. These successes earned the attention of the Office of the Governor of Virginia, with a congratulatory letter conferred upon the program in April 2022. “Nighthawks win and have a ton of fun and memorable college experiences while doing it. It’s part of our identity in the NOVA Esports program,” said Coach John. “It’s who we are.”
Featured premiere titles for Spring 2024 include Valorant, League of Legends, Rocket League and Overwatch 2, with Valorant Violet, our successful all-women’s Valorant team, making a return.
