Join us March 4 through 8 for NOVA Open Ed Week! 5 Days, 5 Activities: Unleashing OER Potential at NOVA. This global celebration is dedicated to sharing and learning about the latest advancements in open education.

Our OER programming provides a special opportunity to actively engage in this movement. Make sure to mark your calendars for March 4–8 and be a part of the conversation!

Monday, March 4:

Kickoff Event: State of OER at NOVA Webinar (4 p.m. – 5 p.m.)

  • Greeting and opening remarks, Jen Daniels, Associate VP of Academic Affairs (4 – 4:15 p.m.)
  • Introduction of IOER team, Cynthia Pascal, VP for eLearning (4:15 – 4:30 p.m.)
  • Q&A: open forum for questions about OER at NOVA (4:30 – 5 p.m.)

Tuesday, March 5:

OER Lightning Talks (12 p.m. – 1 p.m.)

Share your innovative uses of OER and open pedagogy. Colleagues are invited to sign up for a time slot during this hour-long session. Spend two to three minutes and share one slide with your best idea. Click here to sign up by COB on Friday, March 1. A Google Slide template will be provided via email on March 2 to those who sign up.

Wednesday, March 6:

Virtual Social Annotation Flash Mob: Meet You in the Margins of the Text! (9 a.m. – 12 p.m.)

Join us online in the margins of a selected digital text. We will use the social annotation tool Hypothesis for robust online conversations. Unlocking NOVA Pressbooks Together: An Open Invitation to Collaborate and Learn (6 p.m. – 7 p.m.) 

Special guests Darrin Sabourin and Amy Song, NOVA’s Pressbooks reps, will answer your questions about NOVA Pressbooks! We ask that you submit your questions in advance, and you may do so here. We’ll discuss promising practices and more.

OER Resource Identification and Implementation Help Session with NOVA Librarians and IDs (10 a.m. – 11 a.m.)

  • Introduction and review of library services (especially as they relate to OER), Jeff Prater & Diane Kearney, NOVA Librarians (10 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.)
  • Overview of NOL services for OER, Caryn Sever, Director of Instructional Design & Development (10:15 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.)
  • Collaboration opportunity: Partner with NOVA online IDs or NOVA librarians to refine OER ideas/troubleshoot OER issues (10:30 a.m. – 11 a.m.)
