It’s Time to Register for NOVA Walk Week, April 1 thru 5

Hello NOVA Walkers!!! It’s time for our NOVA Walk Week Spring 2024. Please save Monday, April 1 through Friday, April 5. NOVA Walk Week is dedicated to encouraging movement and engagement for the entire NOVA Community across all campuses. 

Move Your Way, NOVA. For Walk Week, you can walk wherever and whenever. It’s just important to intentionally move. If you are interested in walking with colleagues, we’ve got you covered. More information will be available soon as we finalize the details for group walks on our beautiful campuses and locations.  

What do you need to do? Register your intention to participate. Upon registering, you will receive additional information. Plan to participate in NOVA Walk Week events on your campus. Your Campus Wellness Champion will serve as your NOVA Walk Week Push Pals. They will provide support and encouragement; some will even lead campus walks. 

Let us know if you would like to lead a walk. Send an email to employeewellbeing@nvcc.edu with the subject: NOVA Walk Week Spring 24 Push Pal Volunteer. Encourage others (colleagues, students, family and/or friends) to walk. There are many opportunities to move your way right now. Move your way, NOVA!

Fitness Challenges and Wellness Classes. NOVA’s Recreation Department can always be counted on for fresh, new offerings. Check out the Be FLY (FIT, LEAN[ER] YOU)  challenges for a series of monthly movement challenges. This month’s Fitness Challenge is “45 Miles in March.”

NOVA’s Recreation Department is also pleased to offer Sit and Fit, Talk Tuesdays, Meditation/Yoga and Fitness Friday sessions! Please register in advance and share the links. Looking forward to seeing you on Zoom!

Outdoor Adventure. Join AACC Faculty of the Year Nominee, Woodbridge English Professor Indigo Eriksen, for a monthly hike or backpacking trip.

The next hikes are:

  • March 30: Shenandoah National Park (Moderate intensity: 7–10 miles). 
  • April 13: Prince William Forest Park (Intermediate–Moderate: 5–7 miles)
  • May 10: Raven Rocks (Strenuous: 6 miles)

Meditation. The Annandale Center for Contemplative  Practice (ACCP) hosts a weekly sit/mindfulness meditation group in person on the Annandale Campus (CM-332) and co-streamed on Zoom. Meetings are open to all members of the NOVA community and are held every Tuesday from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m.
