NOVA Staff to Participate in VCCS Intentional Inclusion Series, Today & March 21
The VCCS Professional Development/Events Committee of the Advisory Council on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Culture has organized two sessions focused on intentional inclusion. See below for details, and please make plans to join!
Intentionally Inclusive Campuses
Thursday, March 7, 2 p.m.
This session focuses on how colleges can embrace inclusion in the physical spaces of our campuses. Speakers, including NOVA’s Hannah Stoneburner, Associate System Council and Assistant Attorney General, will discuss what colleges should consider as they address the needs of employees and students. Attendees will learn about what colleges must abide by as they designate space or construct facilities, particularly for nursing mothers and people with disabilities. They also will hear about the process of building support to creatively use existing space to create welcoming environments. The facilitator is Phillip Bradshaw, Chief Financial Officer at Camp Community College and a member of the DEIC Council.
Intentionally Inclusive Programming
Thursday, March 21, 10 a.m.
This session focuses on programming efforts designed to increase understanding and build bridges on some of our campuses. Attendees will learn how to leverage programming to advance inclusion and how to engage students in transparent conversations about belonging and more. Speakers, including NOVA’s Dr. Sherrene DeLong, DEI Educational Programming Manager, will share their experiences with community engagement, campuswide efforts, and professional and student development initiatives and discuss specific programs occurring on their campuses.
Registration is required for both sessions.
