G.Pack Artist Reception, Manassas Campus, Today at 12:15 p.m.

Come meet Baltimore-based artist G.Pack and view his work for the exhibition “Afterlife.” An artist reception will be held at the Manassas Campus’s Colgan Gallery today, March 25, from 12:15 p.m. until 12:45 p.m.

The artist said the following about his work:

Painting serves as the voice I use to express unfiltered thoughts, opinions and feelings without the use of any words.

A strong influence in my work comes from the early Venetian, Baroque and Renaissance periods due to my time spent studying art history and art theory in Verona, Italy. The classical use of lighting, portrayal of emotion and hint of spirituality have always struck me deeply. As an African American artist based in Baltimore, I aim to combine the compositions and techniques from these eras with figures and symbols rooted in contemporary Black culture.

Conversations of race, intimacy, spirituality and existentialism have become significant themes in my body of work. These topics tend to be where I find myself asking the most questions and experiencing the most moments of personal and communal growth.

We look forward to seeing you on Monday at the Manassas Campus.
