NOVA Police Officer Takes 2nd and 3rd in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament

March 29, 2024 / Faculty/Staff Highlights

On Saturday, March 23, 2024, NOVA Police Officer Jarrin Moore, assigned to the Annandale Campus, participated in the COPA Virginia Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament held at NOVA’s Annandale Campus. After competing against many skillful competitors, Officer Moore took home 2nd place in the Gi division and 3rd place in the no-Gi division.

Officer Moore, who has been a law enforcement officer for six years, between NOVA and another local agency, said he began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and Muay Thai kickboxing six years ago at the Yamasaki Academy in Woodbridge. Officer Moore also said that he learned these skills for his personal protection and the training was a great way to maintain good physical health.

Officer Moore’s goal is to eventually become an instructor for the NOVA Police Department where he can pass on these techniques to his colleagues. “Every person has the right to feel safe while going about their daily life,” he said. “I want to impart the knowledge to others on how to defend themselves from an act of violence”.

Please join NOVA PD in congratulating Officer Moore for his recent performance.
