Upcoming DEI-101 Workshops Begin April 5

March 29, 2024 / Events

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is hosting its signature DEI-101 workshop several times over the next few weeks. All faculty and staff are welcome to attend this in-person professional development opportunity, but please check with your supervisor(s) before registering.

DEI-101: A Gentle and Practical Introduction to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, is a 2-hour workshop that seeks to help participants understand and embrace the basics of living in community with a diverse population. There are three main learning outcomes for this workshop:

  • [KNOW] Participants will develop a foundational understanding of key concepts related to diversity, equity and inclusion, including recognizing different dimensions of diversity, understanding unconscious biases and grasping the importance of cultural sensitivity.
  • [ACT] Attendees will gain practical skills to foster a more inclusive environment. They’ll identify strategies to address microaggressions, learn how to promote respectful communication, and discover ways to actively promote diversity within their personal and professional circles.
  • [CHANGE] By the end of the workshop, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to initiate conversations about diversity and inclusion, enabling them to contribute positively to organizational and societal efforts aimed at creating equitable and inclusive spaces.

This workshop promotes several aspects of our Inclusive Excellence plan as it seeks to cultivate an organizational environment that affirms and respects diversity through its daily operations.

DEI-101 will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on the following days:
