Office of DEOR Events Showcase NOVA for Dual Enrollment Students

This past month saw the recently merged Office of Dual Enrollment, Outreach & Recruitment (DEOR) welcome almost 200 high school students (for a total of 430+ guests) to NOVA’s five comprehensive campuses. More than 80% of students surveyed after the spring showcase events indicated they are considering attending NOVA after high school, which means the office met its goal of inspiring current dual enrollment students to stick with NOVA after high school graduation!

Challenged to expand on its successful showcases in Spring 2023, DEOR made a few changes and improvements. First, the planning team pivoted to two Thursday evenings, when the College is typically humming with students, faculty and staff. This spring’s showcases were also shorter and more focused than in years past. Another exciting addition was the support of the NOVA Foundation; at each showcase event, the Foundation generously awarded a $500 scholarship to a graduating high school senior whose plan is to attend NOVA in Fall 2024!

All events kicked off with a tabling fair highlighting the College’s many resources and support services. The buzz at the tabling portion was quite lively at all campuses, and especially so at Annandale, where a group of librarians pumped up the energy with a turntable! After the tabling fair, students and families attended a presentation by DE and OR coordinators on maximizing dual enrollment credits. The presentation also covered NOVA’s vast program offerings. Each event concluded with a student-led tour of the host campus.

The Spring 2024 Dual Enrollment Showcase was an opportunity to celebrate our College faculty and staff and highlight the amazing opportunities available to students at NOVA. Students and parents alike were impressed by the College’s wraparound services; according to one attendee who emailed after the event, “NOVA is truly an outstanding community resource, and I couldn’t be more pleased with [the] event.” 

The Office of DEOR wishes to thank all those departments and individuals who volunteered their time to make these events a success. A special thank you goes to our NOVA Corps Interns and NOVA Ambassadors, whose presence was invaluable. Together we were able to showcase to students and their families why NOVA is an outstanding opportunity following high school graduation!
