NOVA Police Celebrates National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW) is held annually during the second week of April to honor public safety telecommunicators for their commitment, service and sacrifice.
NPSTW was established in 1981 by Patricia Anderson of Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office in California. In 1994, President Clinton signed Presidential Proclamation 6667, declaring the second week of April as NPSTW. This week is a time to celebrate and thank telecommunications personnel across the nation who serve our communities, citizens and public safety personnel 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Recently, Va. Governor Glenn Youngkin issued a proclamation recognizing National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, April 14 through April 20.
For more than a decade, the NOVA Police Communications Center has provided emergency and non-emergency communications 24 hours a day, seven days a week to the College community. We are the point of contact for after-hours emergencies and at times non-emergencies for various College departments. In 2023, we handled more than 60,000 radio transmissions, phone calls and service requests.
Please join us in thanking our public safety telecommunicators for keeping NOVA safe. For more information, please contact David Riglin at DRiglin@nvcc.edu or 703-323-4211.
