CommonHealth Weekly Wellnote

April 29, 2024 / Get Well

How can your Virginia State Employee Wellness Program help? The CommonHealth programs and campaigns cover a variety of health topics and are available in a range of formats to meet the needs of different workplaces. Highly skilled wellness consultants provide the latest on stress, sleep, nutrition, exercise and more for faculty/staff meetings, special events, conferences, benefit fairs, safety meetings, lunch and learns, etc. They provide traditional, in-person presentations and displays as well as virtual presentations, on-demand videos and seasonal health-related challenges that are fun and engaging. Visit the website to see how CommonHealth can help you. If you’re looking to book an event in May, connect sooner rather than later to ensure you get a date that works for you.

Check out this week’s updates from CommonHealth.

  • Here’s the link to the featured WeightWatchers Green Shakshuka recipe! Enjoy this and many other healthy, free and easy recipes from WW.
    • Sign up for Weight Watchers at WW.com/us/CommonHealth. All benefits-eligible employees, spouses and adult dependents get an exclusive discount of 50% off the retail price of membership plans and can join now for as low as $9.75 per month. The Special Monthly Pricing and the Commonwealth of Virginia monthly discount is not open to retirees, their spouses and dependents, wage employees or Local Choice members.
  • Bringing wellness to your next meeting could be a great first step in leading the way to a healthier workplace.  Here are some tips to get you started:
    • Start a meeting with a quick one-word check-in. Quotes and affirmations are also quick and effective ways to kick meetings off on a positive note.
    • If food is involved, think of including fresh fruits and veggies as well as water.
    • The weather is getting nicer. Consider taking a walking meeting if possible. This is perfect for more informal meetings.
    • For more ideas, check out this informative quick guide.
  • Visit the CommonHealthVA YouTube channel for additional wellness practices to support getting a little bit healthier this week.
  • We hope you had a moment to read the daily NOVA Gratitude and Appreciation Week messages. If not, take a look at the gratitude resources curated by the OEWW for this spring’s Gratitude and Appreciation Week.

Shakshuka (pronounced shak-shoo-kuh) is a North African dish that typically features tomatoes. In this recipe, WeightWatchers offers a twist with spinach and peppers forming the base of their version and cumin lending an earthy flavor that’s found in the original dish. This recipe makes two servings and comes together in about 20 minutes, including prep. It’s a delicious, quick, and easy option for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Enjoy!
