LASS Micro-Badge Allows Students to Share Their Accomplishments via Social Media!

April 30, 2024 / General NOVA News

This fall, the Languages, Arts and Social Sciences (LASS) Division will launch the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation Career and Leadership Readiness Institute (CLRI). This grant funded initiative will establish a humanities-to-career program at NOVA. Members of a collegewide LASS faculty committee began meeting this semester to discuss pathway opportunities within LASS courses and systems aiming to connect courses, assignments and workshops to digital employment-related competency badges. Students can attach thematic digital badges to career based social media accounts.

During the week of August 19, we will provide faculty with training on the Canvas-based micro-badge system, an orientation to the badging system, best practices and a discussion of our assessment plan. We will also provide further updates on the LASS CLRI and the micro-internship partnership.

What are faculty responsibilities and time commitments? Once you connect a course or assignment to the micro-badge your work is complete. The badging system in Canvas includes tracking of student grades. If/when a student earns the agreed-upon grade, Canvas will automatically assign the micro-badge to the student, who can then share the badge on multiple social media accounts.

The committee will have a follow-up meeting during the Spring 2025 Semester to discuss progress and hear from participating faculty.  We are hopeful faculty will join us in August for the training and to participate in the badging system.

Please share your interest in summer and fall training by completing the LASS CLRI training/interest form.
