NOVA’s DEI Council Seeking New Members. Express Your Interest by May 20

May 14, 2024 / General NOVA News

As we continue our journey toward fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment at NOVA, I am excited to announce an open call to fill three open seats on NOVA’s college-wide Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Council. These are one-year terms.

Since its inception in 2019, NOVA’s DEI Council has played a pivotal role in guiding our college efforts to promote conversation, awareness, and engagement surrounding diversity, equity, inclusion, and a sense of belonging.

As a member of the DEI Council, you will collaborate with colleagues from across the College community and contribute to meaningful discussions and recommendations on various diversity, inclusion and equity matters. Your insights and perspectives can help shape the future direction of our institution as we strive to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all, uphold our institutional core values and fulfill our College mission and strategic plan.

NOVA’s DEI Council meetings are held virtually once a month, on a Friday from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.  Members receive regular reports from the Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer (CDEIO), members of the DEI office, DEI campus committees and other important College constituencies during these meetings. Meeting minutes are posted on the DEI NOVAnet page for transparency and accessibility to the College community.

At this time, the DEI Council has three open seats, and we invite any full-time faculty or staff members who are passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion, or desiring to instill a sense of belonging in members of our community to consider serving a one-year term.

If you are interested, please send a letter or message explaining your interest and/or experience to CDEIO Dr. Nathan Carter at NACarter@nvcc.edu by Monday, May 20. New members will be notified by Wednesday, May 22. The next DEI Council meeting is scheduled for Friday, May 31, at 10 a.m.

The DEI Council is vital to our ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable NOVA community. I appreciate your commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion at NOVA.
