New Accommodations Counselors Join NOVA
Following a national search, the Office of Accommodations and Accessibility Services would like to welcome two new team members, effective May 10, 2024 – Maya Galathe and Victoria Morrow. Both individuals are joining NOVA as accommodations counselors, with Maya being headquartered at the Annandale Campus and Victoria at the Alexandria Campus.
Maya Galathe brings to her position a wealth of experience and a deep passion for helping others. Holding a master of education with a concentration in school counseling from the University of New Orleans, Maya became a licensed professional counselor in 2020. Her journey in supporting students began as an academic counselor at Louisiana State University. It was her role as director of social emotional learning at the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired that solidified Maya’s dedication to assisting unique populations with diverse needs. Eager to reconnect with college students, Maya is excited about the opportunity to make a positive impact once again. A gifted public speaker, she enjoys being in front of a crowd and enthusiastically sharing her expertise and experience. Originally from New Orleans, Maya made the move to Virginia in July 2023 and is delighted to call such a vibrant community her new home. Beyond her professional endeavors, Maya is a devoted dog mom, passionate reader and avid baker.
Victoria Morrow has expertise in supporting and advocating for students with disabilities in both the public school and community college environments. In addition, with case-management experience in the education, workplace and therapeutic settings, Victoria is well positioned for her new role. She holds a master of science in education with a concentration in special education from California State University-Fullerton and a bachelor of arts in communicative disorders from the University of the Redlands. As a veteran’s spouse, she has lived in California, North Carolina and Virginia. Moving coast to coast has given her the opportunity to learn from many perspectives, and she aims to implement the best practices gleaned from all of those. She and her family are eager to make Virginia their permanent home and love to explore the area together. Victoria also enjoys crafting in her free time and is guided by Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s saying of “Light tomorrow with today.”
As Maya and Victoria begin to learn more about NOVA and continue to explore the DMV area, please join in giving them a warm NOVA welcome!
