Welcome to NOVA’s New Associate Director of Retention Advising
Northern Virginia Community College’s Office of Academic Planning and Advising is thrilled to welcome Mr. Christopher Daniels as the incoming associate director of retention advising. With a solid background as an academic advisor at NOVA since 2018 and a cumulative 20 years in various educational roles, Christopher brings a wealth of experience to the position.
His commitment to education is rooted in a passion for enhancing the academic achievements of students. Understanding the unique challenges faced by students to balance their family and work commitments, Christopher has been instrumental in developing support systems to mitigate disruptions to their education.
Christopher’s active participation in campus life is evident through his leadership roles, including chairing the Annandale Campus Awards and Recognition Committee, serving as the Mark Warner CA Building Warden and contributing to the Annandale Campus CARE Team. His efforts in these capacities have been pivotal in providing crisis support and connecting students with essential mental health and community resources, thereby nurturing an environment conducive to academic success.
Moreover, his involvement with the Annandale Campus Forum, College Senate and Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee has fostered a more comprehensive support network for students, alongside strategies aimed at enriching their educational experience.
Outside of his profession, Christopher’s interests span from vocal performances with the Congressional Chorus of Washington to active membership in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
A proud alumnus of Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree and Purdue University Global with a master’s degree, Christopher is currently advancing his education in Education Leadership and Innovation at Purdue Global University. Raised in Jacksonville, Fla., his dedication to fostering growth and engagement within the NOVA community is unwavering.
In his new role, Christopher is set to spearhead collegewide initiatives focused on student retention and reengagement. His approach includes the development of comprehensive academic and personal resources, the creation of adaptable program models for diverse learners and the implementation of individualized support to promote equitable academic success.
