May Is Jewish American Heritage Month
In 2006, President George W. Bush proclaimed May as Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM). The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in paying tribute to the generations of Jewish Americans who have helped form the fabric of American history, culture and society.
May was selected for Jewish American Heritage Month in honor of the 350th Anniversary Celebration of Jews in America in 2004. That year marked 350 years since the establishment of a formal Jewish settlement in what is now New York.
