Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the GI Bill®
June 22 marks the 80th anniversary of the G.I. Bill®, formally known as the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act of 1944. This historic legislation, signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, has played a pivotal role in shaping the futures of millions of American veterans by providing them with opportunities for higher education, homeownership and economic stability.
The G.I. Bill has not only transformed the lives of individual veterans but has also had a profound impact on our nation’s educational institutions. Colleges and universities across the country have welcomed countless veterans whose diverse experiences and perspectives have enriched our academic communities.
At Northern Virginia Community College and the Office of Military and Veterans Services, we are proud to support our veteran students who continue to embody the spirit of resilience and dedication. Their commitment to advancing their education while balancing the responsibilities of school and family is truly commendable. We honor their contributions to the College and to the broader community.
As we reflect on the legacy of the G.I. Bill, we reaffirm our commitment to providing comprehensive support and resources to our veteran students. Whether through academic advising, financial aid or student services, we are here to ensure their success.
Let us take this opportunity to recognize and celebrate the achievements of our veteran students and the enduring impact of the G.I. Bill. Their presence and accomplishments continue to inspire us.
