Advising Redesign Planning and Implementation Updates
You are an important part of the Student Success team, and as part of the Advising Redesign implementation planning process, your role and department play an integral part in student success. As a team member, you are a part of a cross-functional collaborative team that can work at any level or role based on the student’s needs. Everyone at the College can lead from their respective positions.
As a part of the administrative and professional faculty, you are familiar with NOVA’s Strategic Plan and its impact on the institution’s student success agenda; you understand how your department/division supports the agenda; you consistently review the role and responsibilities with your team to ensure that the function(s) you are performing directly or indirectly contribute to the college’s student success agenda; you understand ways to use data to allow for process improvement in support of students, and are willing to modify your processes if the data shows that they are not having the desired impact.
As a teaching faculty member, it’s clear that great professors like you have a big impact on students’ success in college and in their careers. As a faculty member, you actively engage opportunities to improve access, retention and success; you are willing to try new instructional techniques in the classroom if it will help students persist; you play an important role in enhancing the learning experience by engaging students in problem-based learning and in shaping the student experience by tracking student attendance, performance and engagement in class to help inform our early intervention strategy.
As a classified staff member, you play one of the largest roles in student success. You are the secret sauce that makes NOVA stand out from the rest. You are expected to be knowledgeable of college policies and processes, have a keen understanding of the student experience and the support services needed. You take personal and professional ownership of the opportunities to improve and grow by adopting a growth mindset and believing that capability can be developed through continuous learning and by working together.
As a part-time student hire or intern, you are often the face of NOVA. Helping students register for courses is only the tip of the iceberg—you direct, guide and provide information to students on a regular basis. Drawing on the strengths of colleagues and fellow team members, you actively listen to understand and work with others effectively.
Collectively, we are all an important part of the Advising Redesign and Student Success team!
