College Board and SGA Seek Student Liaison to the Board. Apply by July 22

NOVA’s College Board and Student Government Advisory Council are seeking students who would like to apply to be the Student Liaison to the College Board.

This position serves as an intermediary between the Student Government Advisory Council and the NOVA College Board and works closely with both the Office of the President and the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement. The essential function of this position is to act as an ambassador and advocate for the NOVA student body on and off campus.

Interested candidates who meet the minimum qualifications outlined below and have reviewed the duties, responsibilities and expectations for the position are invited to complete the application by Monday, July 22. Selected individuals will be invited to interview in person at the Annandale Campus prior to a final decision. Please note that you must be logged into your MyNOVA account to access the application.

Students are encouraged to meet with a career counselor if they would like assistance in updating their resume or refining their interview skills. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meets on the first Friday of each month with the Student Government Advisory Council. Provides regular updates/reports.
  • Reports monthly as a standing agenda item for the Student Government Advisory Council.
  • Meets bimonthly with the NOVA College Board as a nonvoting member representing the student body. Provides regular updates/reports to the board.
  • Writes comprehensive reports to be included in the public agenda for NOVA College Board meetings. Reports must be submitted to the Associate Director of Federal Relations (AWilder@nvcc.edu) no less than 2 weeks prior to the meeting.
  • Will attend and participate in the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) National Legislative Summit, held annually.

Expectations

  • This is a high-visibility role. The selected student should be willing and able to attend key events, conferences, trainings, etc., with proper planning and notice.
  • The selected student should maintain a high level of professionalism within the role.
  • The student should have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The student should have experience speaking and/or presenting in front of a group.
  • The student should be able to speak about the NOVA student experience, both generally and personally.
  • The student should have effective organizational and time management skills.

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum 2.8 grade point average.
  • Must be in good academic and behavioral standing with the College.
  • Minimum of 15 credits completed.
  • Student should have some leadership experience.
  • Must provide the name and contact information for a NOVA faculty/staff member who can provide a reference.
  • Must submit a resume for review.
