Important Update: Mandatory Training for New NOVA Students in Fall 2024
As part of our ongoing commitment to campus safety and student well-being, NOVA is implementing new mandatory training requirements for all students who are new to the college in fall 2024. These changes are in response to recent Virginia legislation, specifically §23.1-808.1, which mandates Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Training, and §23.1-808.2, which requires campus safety and emergency preparedness training.
What Faculty and Staff Need to Know:
- Mandatory Training Enrollment: All new NOVA students, except for contracted Dual Enrollment students, will be automatically enrolled in a mandatory training course in Canvas.
- Course Completion Requirement: Students must complete this training to unlock their fall 2024 course dashboard. Until they finish the training, they will not have access to their course materials or be able to participate in their classes.
- Proactive Student Guidance: Synchronous instructors are encouraged to direct their students to the Canvas dashboard on the first day of class, ensuring that they are aware of the mandatory training requirement and can complete it promptly.
Please note that students will not be able to view any of their fall courses until this task is complete, so it is critical that each faculty and staff member highlight the importance of this task. Your support in communicating this requirement is essential to ensuring a smooth and successful start to the semester for our new students. Thank you for your continued dedication to creating a safe and supportive learning environment.
