As we embark on the 2024-2025 academic year, we want to remind you that the Business Engagement & Career Services is here to help! We ask faculty to consider adding the following statement to your course syllabi to increase student awareness about career exploration, development and planning resources available at NOVA:

Syllabus Statement: Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) is committed to providing career services to all students as part of the comprehensive educational journey. NOVA Career Services assists students with exploring, developing and setting goals related to each student’s unique educational and academic needs. These services include career assessments, occupational information, goal setting, planning and employment resources. Students can request an appointment with a career counselor here.

We’d also like to highlight a wide variety of services available to NOVA students, faculty and staff, including:

Workshops: The Career Services team offers ongoing workshops and programming for students, faculty and staff to attend. Topics range from resume and cover letter writing to interviewing and networking skills, as well as career readiness and artificial intelligence. Please visit the workshop calendar to see the latest offerings. Additionally, career counselors are also available to provide a variety of workshops to groups of students, faculty or staff by request! Mock Interviews: Mock interviews allow students the ability to practice and refine their interviewing skills in a low-stakes environment. Encourage your students to check out our mock interview quick tips before utilizing our mock interview tool offered virtually through the Career Connection platform. Students have the option to send their completed interview to a career counselor for constructive feedback.

Canvas: Please inform your students about the newly developed NOVA Career Services Canvas site. There is also a faculty/staff module with loads of helpful resources. Students, staff and faculty can self-enroll in the course!

Faculty and Staff Newsletter: The Career Connection Newsletter is sent out monthly and includes tips on how to better use Career Connection, job market updates, upcoming events and features current employers’ job openings. Signup for the newsletter!
