Recruiting Faculty for CATE on Every Campus. Apply by Sept. 6

August 22, 2024 / Faculty/Staff Highlights

Are you interested in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning at NOVA? Do you have innovative ideas for integrating generative AI in teaching and learning? Do you want to collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to foster an engaging and innovative educational environment? If so, we invite you to apply for the role of “CATE Captain,” a faculty liaison for the Center for Advancement of Teaching Excellence (CATE).

As a CATE Captain, you will play an important role in advancing teaching excellence across NOVA. You will work closely with the CATE team to design, facilitate and host professional development opportunities that are engaging, inclusive and tailored to the needs of faculty from all disciplines.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborative Design & Facilitation: Work with other CATE Captains and the CATE team to create and deliver dynamic professional development workshops that support faculty in enhancing their teaching practices.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Engagement: Serve as a bridge between CATE and faculty members from various disciplines, ensuring that the professional development offerings are relevant and accessible to all.
  • Event Hosting: Take the lead in organizing and hosting workshops, seminars, and other events that bring faculty together to share best practices and innovative teaching strategies.
  • Feedback & Assessment: Gather feedback from faculty participants and collaborate with the CATE team to continuously improve the quality and impact of our professional development initiatives.

We are looking for faculty members from across disciplines who are committed to teaching excellence and have a desire to contribute to the professional growth of their colleagues. One faculty member from each comprehensive campus will be chosen to join as CATE Captains and will receive three credits of reassigned time per academic year.

Interested faculty members should submit a brief letter of interest (one-page; bullet points are great!) outlining their experience with teaching and professional development, as well as their vision for how they can contribute as a CATE Captain. Including your CV is optional and encouraged, but not required. Email your letter of interest to Indigo Eriksen at IEriksen@nvcc.edu.

Application Deadline: Friday, September 6.
