Register for Sept. 6 VCCS Virtual Experiential Learning Conf. Proposals Due Today!
Brightpoint Community College is hosting the 2024 VCCS Virtual Experiential Learning Conference on September 6 at their campus in Chester, Va. The conference will highlight the exceptional potential of experiential learning by sharing student-produced projects and collaborative presentations conducted by VCCS’ students, faculty and staff. With a keynote address by Virginia State Senator and former VCCS faculty member Ghazala Hashmi, this will be the second annual conference. It’s free and open to faculty, staff and students from all of Virginia’s Community Colleges.
We encourage faculty, staff and students to submit a proposal one of the three categories below:
- Faculty-sponsored student panels will occur in scheduled breakout sessions and may focus on collaborations pertaining to study abroad programs, internships and apprenticeships, research projects, service learning, skilled trades, visual arts, performing arts, dual enrollment, work-based partnerships and learning, artificial intelligence or other relevant topics.
- Student Virtual Poster Sessions are 15-minute presentations that give students an opportunity to present on their individual learning experiences. Topics may include but are not limited to students’ experiences in study abroad programs, internships and apprenticeships, research projects, service learning, skilled trades, visual arts, performing arts, dual enrollment, work-based partnerships or artificial intelligence. Poster sessions may include but are not limited to student clubs, organizations, collaborative class projects, independent studies, etc. Posters may be in a variety of media to include voice-over PowerPoint, video, audio, podcast, web site or other digital media. Video or audio recordings are limited to five minutes.
- Faculty, staff and business presentations will occur in scheduled breakout sessions and may focus on the pedagogy of experiential learning to include best practices and examples. Topics may focus on but are not limited to study abroad programs, internships and apprenticeships, research projects, service learning, skilled trades, visual arts, performing arts, dual enrollment and work-based partnerships and learning. This year, we welcome a focus on topics pertaining to artificial intelligence—specifically, how educators might prepare students for the workforce in response to AI.
Submit a 250- to 300-word description for each session type via the proposal submission form by this today, August 30.
