988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline

September 3, 2024 / Get Well

New at NOVA this semester, students, faculty and staff will see 988 signage in various locations across each of our campuses. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a free and confidential support that directly connects you to a trained mental health professional, 24/7, if you are in a suicidal crisis or in emotional distress. You can learn more about the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline here. Think of 988 like you would 911 BUT as a dedicated line for mental health-related crises or for those who might be experiencing thoughts of suicide.

September is also National Suicide Prevention Month! Please know that your life matters and NOVA cares about your wellness and mental health. Don’t forget about your other resources such as Timely Care, Mental Health Provider Database and the Office of Wellness and Mental Health (OWMH) Resources.

In addition to 988, the Office of Wellness and Mental Health offers various trainings to support educating our NOVA community to be suicide safer. Please complete the safeTALK Suicide Prevention Interest form. If interested in other trainings such as ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), Mental Health First Aid or other wellness and mental health-related trainings please email wellness@nvcc.edu.
