Nominations Due for Forum Council Vacancies by Sept. 12, 11:59 p.m.
We have a number of vacancies on our forum councils and we want you to run for a spot! Forum councils are like “mini-senates” for campuses (as well as the College Staff Forum Council for college staff who are not attached to a particular campus). If you win a seat, you serve a two-year term and help your campus (or college staff) address the issues that matter to you and your constituents. Here are the responsibilities of the forum councils, as per the College Forum Constitution and Bylaws. As you look through the vacancies, you will notice that some spots also ask you to serve on the College Senate. Senate terms are for one year. Here are the responsibilities of the College Senate.
- Click here to nominate yourself or someone else (with that person’s consent) for a vacant forum council seat. It’s quick and easy.
- Nominations are open until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, September 12.
- Elections will then take place from 8 a.m., Monday, September 16, through 11:59 p.m., Thursday, September 19.
As your Senate Chair, I cannot overstate the impact you can have by serving on a forum council or on the senate. But I think that by joining these bodies, it’s the best chance we all have to communicate our opinions and preferences in the most constructive ways possible. College leaders are very receptive to the feedback that comes from these entities, as they should be. Honestly, don’t we all need more human contact? And, you’ll meet great people who care deeply about our students and about NOVA. That’s pretty darned awesome all by itself.
If you take the plunge but don’t win (as has happened to me a number of times), or you don’t run and still want to be plugged in, please know that you can contact your representatives on the forum councils and on the senate, and you can attend all meetings.

So remember, nominate yourself or someone else (with their permission) for a forum council vacancy!
