Raven Rocks Hike a Success!
Twenty-two NOVA students and employees explored the rocks and trees of Raven Rocks on Friday, September 13, a beautiful and challenging 5.8 mile section of the Appalachian Trail located in Bluemont, Virginia. The foggy morning cleared to a gorgeous view of the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Nicknamed the “Roller Coaster,” the Raven Rocks hike features 1,500 feet of elevation gain!
Interim Director of Faculty Professional Development Indigo Eriksen (WO) and Professor Karen Murph (AN) led the hike accompanied by Librarians Crystal Boyce (AN) and Roxx Young (AN), Business Engagement Manager Will Schmidt (Pender), Math Professor Ed Kilday (WO) and Writing Ourselves In Administrative Assistant Megan Reynolds (AN). Fifteen students from across the college joined for the adventure, including Mr. Dean Shannon (AN), one of the Outdoor Project’s student leaders.
Sign up for the hiking list here. The Outdoor Project leads a college hike each month. A registration email is sent out at 10 a.m. the Monday before the monthly hike,. The first 20 people to sign up are guaranteed a spot. Transportation is provided from the Woodbridge and Annandale campuses, or can meet the rest of the group at the trailhead. October’s hike is at Mason Neck.
