“AI and Teaching” Professional Development and Listening Tour Summary from CATE

The Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence (CATE) hosted four virtual listening tours to hear the concerns, ideas and questions from MTSB, LASS and Workforce faculty surrounding Generative AI at NOVA. The AI Listening Tour highlights the need for institutional support, clear guidance and updated policies as well as professional development, robust resources, and continually updated information that keeps pace with ever-evolving AI trends. Professional Development that addresses AI’s impact on academic integrity, teaching strategies and supporting students as they transition into and through NOVA.

In response to these key takeaways, CATE invites all faculty and NOVA employees to participate in two interactive professional development opportunities.

  1. ACUE AI Series “Faculty Chats”: ACUE is a series of four, high-quality Quick Study courses about teaching with AI. ACUE’s AI Series is free to NOVA employees through January 24, 2025. Participants in the “Faculty Chats” will complete the same ACUE Quick Study course module on their own and then meet together every two to three  weeks via Zoom to discuss how to apply that module’s lesson in our own teaching. “Faculty Chats” will take place at 4 p.m. on Oct 3; Oct 17; Oct 24; Nov 7; and Dec 5. Register by Tuesday, October 1.

  2. “Leveraging AI from the Classroom to the Office”: This ZOOM Workshop with Dr. Michelle Baragona and Dr. Carlena Benjamin from Northeast Mississippi Community College will be held on Friday, November 1, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Register for the 5-Part “Faculty Chats” by Monday, October 28.
