Walker Wisdom Day 5: Wearable Tech

September 20, 2024 / Get Well

Smart watches have so many benefits and uses. The most basic watches track steps. 10,000 steps is the recommended daily goal. Wearable technology like a smart watch is an easy and more accurate way to track your steps versus relying on your phone as a tracking device. If 10,000 steps seems daunting, you can begin to work your way up by increasing your steps by 1,000 steps each week.

In addition to tracking steps, the more advanced smart watches include features such as:

  • Heart Rate monitoring during rest as well as physical activity.
  • Tracking calories burned while engaged in physical activity.
  • Monitoring activities like swimming, yoga and strength training.
  • Measuring body composition including body fat, muscle mass and water percentage.
  • Tracking how long you slept and what the quality of sleep was.
  • Connectivity to other apps like messaging, email and music.
