NOVA PD and AN Student Life Host Distracted and Impaired Driving Awareness Event
On September 19, the NOVA Police, in collaboration with Annandale Campus Student Life, hosted a distracted and impaired driving event at the Annandale Campus. This program, meticulously organized by the Virginia State Police, aimed to raise awareness about the severe consequences of distracted and impaired driving. Attendees had the unique opportunity to witness firsthand how these factors can drastically alter a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely.
Virginia State Police troopers and NOVA Police officers were on-site, engaging students with interactive demonstrations designed to simulate real-life driving challenges. Troopers set up a designed cone course, providing a controlled environment for community members to navigate in a golf cart. Participants were equipped with special goggles that mimicked the effects of impairment, as well as distractions that can occur while driving. This immersive experience highlighted just how significantly distractions and impairments can slow reaction times and decision-making on the road.
In addition to the hands-on activities, the event also fostered a sense of community by allowing NOVA students and staff to interact directly with NOVA Police officers and the local troopers who serve the area. Attendees were encouraged to ask questions, share experiences and gain insights into safe driving practices.
NOVA Police and Annandale Campus Student Life extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who participated and contributed to the event’s success. Your support plays a vital role in promoting a culture of safety within our community.
