Streamline Your Canvas Notifications: Verify your NVCC.edu Email
Each VCCS Canvas user has their VCCS email address set as the default email in Canvas. While you cannot remove that email from Canvas, you can add your NVCC email address and adjust the settings to reduce or stop notifications to your VCCS email. For faculty or staff at NOVA, it is recommended that your Canvas account remain associated with your NVCC.edu email. Your account may already be set to your NVCC.edu email. If so, you do not need to make any changes. If you need to update your account, please follow the steps below to update your Canvas-associated email address.
Adding Alternative Email Addresses to Canvas
- Click the Account button in the top left corner of the main Canvas menu
- Click Settings from the fly-out menu that appears
- Click + Email Address in the menu on the right side of the account settings page
- Enter your nvcc.edu email address into the Email Address field
- Click Register Email. A pop-out notification should appear directing you to check your alternative email inbox.
- Open your alternative email inbox and locate the confirmation email from notifications@instructure.com
- Open the email and click the link within the email that says, “Click here to confirm this registration“
- Return to your Canvas account settings page and verify that your email address text color has changed from orange to black indicating your email address has been confirmed
Adjusting Which Emails Receive Canvas Notifications
- Click the Account button in the top left corner of the main Canvas menu
- Click Notifications from the fly-out menu that appears
- Adjust the frequency of notifications being sent to each confirmed email address in your Canvas account
Faculty and staff registering for training through the NOVA GoSignMeUp (GSMU) portal will receive all communications at their default Canvas email address. Since the GSMU portal is integrated with Canvas, notifications will be sent to the primary email listed in Canvas. Please ensure that your Canvas account is set to send notifications to your primary email address.
