October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month!
Each October, during National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), the Department of Labor celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities. This annual celebration reflects the importance of ensuring that persons with disabilities have equal opportunity to prepare for and succeed in employment. This year’s NDEAM theme is “Access to Good Jobs for All.” For more information, visit NDEAM 2024 and NDEAM Key Messages.
As faculty and staff, you can help students or recent graduates with a disability jumpstart their career and possibly find their dream job by helping to spread the word about the Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP). Current NOVA students or recent NOVA graduates with disabilities who have an interest in gaining work experience in Federal Government jobs and internships nationwide can learn more about the program by viewing What Is the WRP? on YouTube, and/or by contacting NOVA’s WRP Campus Coordinators Anmarie Kallas (akallasalleva@nvcc.edu) and Pamela Lucas (plucas@nvcc.edu), who are also counselors with NOVA Accommodations and Accessibility Services.
Eligibility Requirements for WRP:
Current, full-time undergraduate or graduate students with disabilities, and recent graduates who received a postsecondary degree on or after April 1, 2022, from a U.S. accredited college or university, are eligible to apply for WRP. Students can be taking a part-time course load if they meet certain criteria. Candidates must be U.S. citizens who are eligible for the federal Schedule A Hiring Authority.
