Session Proposals for WONDER, The Conference, Now Open

October 30, 2024 / Faculty/Staff Highlights

“Wonder is the beginning of wisdom,” or so goes the quotation attributed to Socrates. To wonder is to lead with curiosity, to make an observation and design a hypothesis and run an experiment. Wonder invites us to play, to make mistakes, to try again … to learn.

The Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence (CATE) at NOVA invites session proposals for its winter conference. Formerly known as Power Up Your Pedagogy (PUP), the newly renamed WONDER Conference will explore themes of wisdom, openness, novelty, data, engagement and reflection. Read more here and submit a session proposal by Monday, November 18.

Do your students do a cool project in class? Great! How does it support student success? Are your students learning innovative strategies that propel them toward success? Fantastic! Tell us more. Perhaps your course offers a compelling example of problem-based learning; or maybe you’ve found a way to combine experiential learning in your science or composition course. Are you working with other faculty on a project that has seen great student success? Share it with your colleagues at WONDER!

We also need wonderful people to help run the WONDER Conference. Please let interim Director of Faculty Professional Development Indigo Eriksen know if you are willing to assist. Thank you in advance! Have questions? Email Indigo at IEriksen@nvcc.edu.

Note: The WONDER Conference will be held entirely in person at the Ernst Center on the Annandale Campus. A delicious lunch will be provided.
