Gobble, Gobble NOVA: Join the November Fitness/Wellness Challenges!
Get ready for CommonHealth’s Turkey Trot Challenge! As the seasons change and many of us find ourselves spending more time indoors, it’s important that we continue to take time to keep moving. Staying active plays a major role in our overall health and wellbeing. That’s why CommonHealth, our state wellness partner, is excited to invite you to register and join the CommonHealth Turkey Trot Challenge! This challenge is open to all employees and all fitness levels.
Here’s how it works: For the month of November, we challenge you to move daily for at least 20 minutes. Employees that register here will receive an official activity calendar to help track their progress. (Once you have registered, check your spam or junk mailbox to avoid missing the messages.) Movement activities can include anything from going for a walk, doing seated exercises or even dancing around your living room. The goal is to get your body moving and your heart pumping for at least 25 out of the 30 days in November.
Employees who complete the challenge and submit the survey at the end will receive a printable certificate and be entered into a prize drawing. During the challenge, to keep registrants motivated and on track, we’ll be sending out weekly emails with information on the mental health benefits of moving regularly, as well as tips to help you stay active and reach your goals. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the process. Let’s support each other and make November a month of movement!

November’s Be FLY (Fit, lean you) Challenge: PUSH-UPS
You are also invited to join our college wellness partner Rec on Canvas For The Be FLY! Push-up challenge.
Push-ups are an excellent way to build strength and endurance in your chest, shoulders and triceps. The challenge gets progressively more difficult.
Every other day in November, participants will complete a certain number of push-ups, progressively building up from five on Day One to 75 on the last day of November! Rest and recovery are important in this strength-building challenge. At 1 p.m. on Friday, November 8 and Friday, November 22, we will lead the challenge via Zoom! Participants are invited to log on. To join the challenge or if you have questions, please send an email with “Push-ups” in the subject line to campusrec@nvcc.edu, and we will send you more details.
