AAPI Center to Host Local Artist Kim Sandara, Today at 10
Join the AAPI Center in welcoming local artist Kim Sandara. This event will be held today, November 7, from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on the Annandale Campus (CA-302).
Kim Sandara (they/them, Falls Church, Va.) will delve into their unique artistic practice that involves painting, illustration and stop-motion animation. This session will also provide a brief history of the Secret War in Laos, a significant yet often overlooked chapter in American and Lao history. Participants will also learn a short history on zines and how to make a jointed paper puppet.
Kim’s work serves as a powerful medium for processing the complex narratives of violence and identity that is shaped by their experience as a Lao American with refugee parents. Through their art, they seek to explore themes of memory, resilience and the lasting impact of conflict on personal and cultural identity.
