Transfer Course Eval. Updates and Academic Affairs Webinar, Nov. 15

November 12, 2024 / General NOVA News

There have been increasing collaborative efforts between faculty and the College Records Office and the Office of Academic Affairs to streamline the transfer course evaluation process. Please review these recent changes and the resulting tips from this project below.

  1. Effective October 1, 2024, CRO staff have discontinued awarding direct course credit (e.g., ENG-111) unless there is an existing direct course equivalency in the TES transfer course database. Instead, they are now assigning EEE credit to all courses without faculty-approved direct equivalencies in the database referenced above. Under this new practice, after posting EEE credit to the student’s record in SIS, CRO staff will send an evaluation request to the relevant faculty. Faculty will then review the course descriptions in TES and determine a NOVA course equivalency for future evaluations.
  2. Students or academic advisors may request that EEE credit be converted to direct course credit by emailing askthecro@nvcc.edu, once a direct course equivalency has been established by faculty. This change does not apply to evaluations completed before fall 2024.
  3. Before approving a course substitution request for an EEE course, academic advisors and deans are advised to first check the TES transfer course database. If a direct course equivalency exists, they should submit a credit adjustment request instead of a course substitution.
