U.S. DoD SMART Scholarships

November 19, 2024 / Our Nighthawks

Representatives from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) participated in a recent Business Engagement and Career Services fair, where they shared information on the agency’s Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program. The SMART Scholarship is a unique education and workforce development opportunity for aspiring leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The SMART Scholarship is for students currently enrolled at a college or university or who have previous college credit. Applicants should either already possess a college transcript from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university or have the ability to obtain a college transcript by the end of the Fall 2024 term.

Scholarship recipients receive full tuition, annual stipends, health and book allowances and mentorship services, in addition to the opportunity to complete an internship at a DoD facility. The first step to a rewarding civilian career with the DoD is reviewing the eligibility criteria, starting with the 24 SMART STEM disciplines. These disciplines are general, so specific majors or fields of study may fall under one or more discipline on the list. All applicants should be pursuing a degree in one of SMART’s 24 STEM disciplines.

All applicants are required to submit an online application by 5 p.m. EST on Friday, December 6. Supporting materials, such as reference forms, must also be received by the application deadline.

For questions, contact SMART Program information at smart@smartscholarship.org or 571-633-7940 (option 0).
