TimelyCare’s Faculty & Staff Guidance Line: Supporting You in Supporting Your Students
Students face a range of challenges, both academic and personal. As a faculty or staff member, you’re often the first to notice when a student is struggling. While you’re not expected to be a counselor, you are an essential bridge between students and the resources they need. Connecting students with the right tools can help them navigate difficult times and achieve their goals.
To better support your students, consider the following:
- Recognize that you’re part of a larger student support system.
- Familiarize yourself with NOVA’s student services and other resources. Bookmark important campus support services, including the food pantries through Financial Stability and Advocacy, and the quick-reference guide to support students from the Office of Wellness and Mental Health.
- Know when and how to connect students with mental health professionals. Keep this information accessible for moments when students are in distress.
One element of NOVA’s support network is TimelyCare, which offers free virtual health and wellbeing services to both students and employees. Recognizing that faculty and staff are often the first to notice when students need support, TimelyCare provides a dedicated Faculty & Staff Guidance Line. Guidance is available for a wide range of student-related concerns, including:
- mental health issues
- behavioral problems
- academic stress
- substance abuse concerns
- social and emotional challenges and/or overall wellbeing
