Academic Integrity Policy and Procedures Revisions
In the spring of 2024, an ad hoc committee, co-chaired by academic deans Maggie Emblom-Callahan (MSTB) and Jay Steere (LASS), reviewed and revised NOVA’s current Academic Integrity Policy and Procedures. They presented their revisions to academic deans over the summer, and Academic Affairs incorporated the deans’ suggestions and made process clarifications before sending the proposed changes to the President’s Office to begin the Policy on Policy Development and Review process.
The first step was to send the policy to the Office of System Counsel (a.k.a. Legal) for review. While the policy was under review, Academic Affairs learned that the VCCS will include Academic Integrity in the system-wide Student Code of Conduct, which is expected to be available in the spring of 2025 (for implementation for the 2025-26 academic year). NOVA’s Academic Integrity policy review process has been paused. Once we have the VCCS policy, NOVA will align our procedures to the new policy.
The current policy and procedures remain in effect until the new policy is adopted. For questions about managing academic integrity issues in your classes, please talk with your deans and associate deans. For technical questions about reporting suspected violations of the existing policy, please consult Janet Bush (JBush@nvcc.edu). Other questions about the policy or procedures may be directed to AVP Jen Daniels (JDaniels@nvcc.edu).
