Looking for an Employee Writing Group?

December 11, 2024 / Events

The Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence (CATE) will host a virtual writing group in the spring semester for NOVA employees working on a writing project of any sort. The writing group is an informal space where interested people meet regularly via Zoom to work on independent projects (e.g. research, journal articles, book chapters, conference presentations, policy documents). Writing groups provide structure and a space to write, which increases productivity, community and creates the good feeling of moving forward on a project.

To help determine the day/time for this group, please email Interim Director of Faculty Development Indigo Eriksen (IEriksen@nvcc.edu) by Monday, December 16. The meeting schedule and Zoom link will be published in The Daily Flyer in January and the writing group will start in February.

How it works: Just log into Zoom, share your writing goal in the chat at the beginning of the session, write for 40 minutes, take a brief break, write for 40 more minutes, share your progress in the chat at the end. You can leave your camera on or off. We won’t share our drafts or provide feedback in this writing group; instead, we just write on our own but together. This is also known as “body doubling,” a productivity technique that increases focus and motivation.
