Free Assistance for Student Loan Borrowers

December 16, 2024 / Our Nighthawks

Federal student loan repayment resumed on October 1, 2023 after payments were paused during the COVID-19 pandemic. While payments resumed, the U.S. Department of Education did not consider borrowers who were unable to make their payments delinquent or report them to the credit bureaus until after September 30, 2024.

To provide free assistance to borrowers who have fallen behind in their student loan payments, NOVA has partnered with Inceptia, the nonprofit division of the National Student Loan Program (NSLP). Inceptia will contact NOVA’s federal student loan borrowers who have become 60 or more days delinquent to help them get their student loans back into good standing with a comfortable repayment plan. For borrowers whom Inceptia reaches by phone, making a warm transfer to the loan servicer, the delinquency resolution rate is over 90%.

How Inceptia Assists Borrowers:

  • Proactive Support: If a borrower’s loans become delinquent, Inceptia’s friendly customer representatives may reach out to discuss the situation and explore solutions. Please note, Inceptia is not a collection agency; they simply help borrowers navigate repayment options.
  • Customized Repayment Strategies: Inceptia can help borrowers explore various possibilities, including alternative repayment plans, deferment, consolidation, discharge, forgiveness and forbearance options.
  • Ongoing Communication: Inceptia provides borrower support through phone calls, letters and emails to address their questions and concerns.
