Communications and Enrollment Marketing Shines Bright This Season

The Office of Communications and Enrollment Marketing (EM) takes great pride in its work, from keeping the NOVA community informed of college and community developments to positioning NOVA as prospective students’ next destination.

While “communications” and “marketing” might seem simple enough, the Comms & EM department comprises several smaller teams, each with a specialized means of conveying information to a particular audience. In addition to enrollment marketing, there’s web services; student, internal and external/executive communications; graphics; social media and visual services; and editorial services.

The department was recently honored for its outstanding work in multiple areas. In September, the Virginia Community Colleges Association (VCCA) honored NOVA communications with several Excellence in Communications Awards at the association’s annual awards banquet. According to the VCCA, the awards are intended “to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary work and talents of our faculty, staff and administrators throughout the VCCS.” NOVA placed second in the Annual Report category for its 2023 President’s Report, “Inspiring Excellence.” The college’s website, which relaunched in November 2023 with streamlined content and a bold new design, was awarded third place in the Website category, and our social media team also received a third-place prize for its “Welcome to Our Home” campaign. Congratulations, team!

Let it also be known that Karen Todd, campus and community relations coordinator at the Manassas Campus, was recognized at the same conference with a VCCA Showcase Award for her incredible work in service of NOVA students. Well done, Karen!

On the enrollment marketing side of things, the small but mighty EM team was honored last month by the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) with a 2024 Bronze Medallion Award in the Online Marketing Campaign category. The NCMPR award celebrates the success of NOVA’s “Stop at Nothing” campaign. This dynamic, impactful campaign — the culmination of six months of creative collaboration between the college’s internal EM team and external marketing agency, VisionPoint — comprises more than 600 ads and speaks to NOVA’s tireless efforts to support our students on their path to success.

As we round out the calendar year, let’s give a shout-out to our colleagues for their hard-earned recognition. Bravo!
