Mandatory Training due by Monday, Dec. 23
As part of NOVA’s commitment to compliance and professional development, we write to inform you about NOVA’s 2024 mandatory training requirement for all NOVA employees. All current full-time faculty, classified staff, adjunct faculty, workforce instructors, wage/P-14 employees, and contractors, are required to complete this training through Canvas by 5 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2024.
The Canvas 2024 Mandatory Training Course consists of five (5) online modules and one (1) final acknowledgment module. These training modules are mandated for employees of the Commonwealth of Virginia under the Code of Virginia, Executive Order, or DHRM policy. Completing this training helps mitigate risks for the college and contributes to a more productive working environment. The entire course will take approximately 2.5 hours to complete.
The 2024 Mandatory Training course in Canvas includes the following modules, including the final acknowledgement:
- Alcohol and Other Drugs Policy (20 minutes)
- Civility in the Workplace (45-50 minutes)
- Employee Safety and Disaster Awareness (30 minutes)
- Title IX at NOVA (20 minutes)
- Accommodations & Disabilities (20 minutes)
- Final Acknowledgement (1 minute)
Note: This requirement was revised on October 2, 2024. Previously, the course included eight (8) modules. Employees who completed the training before the revision do not need to take further action.
Important Reminder: The course will not automatically appear in your Canvas account. To access the training modules, you must first register for the bundle via GoSignMeUp (GSMU).
- Select “Human Resources” from the left menu, choose “Training,” and then click on the “2024 HR Mandatory Training Course” to register.
- This bundle includes all eight modules. You will receive a confirmation email upon successful registration.
After registering through GSMU, you can access the modules in Canvas.
- Once logged into Canvas, click on the “Courses” icon in the left navigation bar, select the “2024 HR Mandatory Training Course,” and the modules will be listed within the bundle.

To ensure compliance with college requirements, please plan accordingly to ensure completion of all modules, including the final acknowledgment, by 5 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2024.
