The Office of Employee Wellness and Wellbeing (OEWW) is excited to welcome you to a new year with a renewed focus on financial wellness! January is Financial Wellness Month and National Credit Awareness Month, and we’ve curated resources to help you build a strong foundation for your financial health.

Supporting your economic wellbeing is an essential component of overall wellness. A thoughtful approach to financial stability can reduce stress and improve productivity, allowing everyone in the NOVA community to thrive.

Spotlight Event: Get to Know Invest529
Thursday, January 30, 2025, 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. Via Zoom
The New Year is a great time to look at ways you can save for education. Get to know Invest529 is a savings tool that helps you or a loved one prepare for the future. In this webinar, you’ll learn about the uses of an Invest529 account and the tax advantages that come with it. As a bonus just for attending the webinar, you’ll receive an exclusive offer, a $25 gift code to open a new Invest529 account. Resource Spotlights:

Virginia Retirement System for Active & Retired VRS Members myVRS Personalized Content
Expanded financial wellness content is now available exclusively for active and retired VRS members registered in myVRS. Discover interactive courses, personalized action plans and content recommendations based on your interests. Check back often for new content. For members and non-VRS members, start learning nowAccess money-management information, increase your knowledge of financial best practices and make sense of things like credit, insurance and taxes. Tips, tools and time-savers will help you on your way now and also prepare you for retirement. 

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
All health plans offered to state employees and their dependents include an EAP. EAP offers a variety of resources, including ones that can help us take charge of our finances, such as:

  • Debt and credit management 
  • Life event planning 
  • Saving for education and retirement 

Learn more about EAP and contact your health plan’s EAP specialist for details on their specific financial resources.

In honor of this month’s focus, OEWW has updated our financial wellness resources page to include new tools, live webinars and on-demand recordings. These resources cover essential topics such as:

  • Managing credit responsibly (National Credit Awareness Month)

  • Saving for the future with Invest529
