Clear the Clutter: IT Surplus Collection Update
The IT Inventory team was created in 2021 and tasked with implementing a program to manage IT equipment college-wide. In just three short years, this small team has configured a database with over 20,000 records and trained more than 100 users who are actively managing computers and network and classroom AV equipment. More recently, the IT Inventory Specialists – Cameron Barr, Claudio Rodrigues and Kumar Manoj – have been on campuses supporting local IT staff in collecting and processing equipment during the IT Surplus events that were held this fall.
On that note, College Computing thanks all the staff and faculty who participated in the college-wide IT clean up. The most common items dropped off were old printers, scanners, keyboards/mice, monitors, docking stations, headsets, cables, webcams and hard drives. In all, over 5,000 items were collected and processed as surplus! As you can see, the accumulation of old technology takes up a lot of space, so everyone benefits when we surplus outdated, unused equipment in a timely manner.
Moving forward, College Computing will conduct bi-annual surplus events. The next one will coincide with the end of the academic year so be sure to check The Daily Flyer as the semester comes to a close for more dates and drop off locations.
