Register for Alternative Grading FLC by Feb., 20
The Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence (CATE), in collaboration with Writing Ourselves In, is pleased to announce a pilot FLC (faculty learning community) with George Mason University’s Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning. Faculty from NOVA, across the VCCS and from GMU will explore alternative grading in the spring 2025 FLC. This pilot is open to faculty across all disciplines.
Why it matters: Alternative grading aligns with authentic assessment, which reframes teaching through inquiry, real-world scenarios and student-centered teaching. There are many types of alternative grading, including ungrading, specs grading and contract grading.
