It Is Random Acts of Kindness Week
This is Random Acts of Kindness Week (Feb. 9–15, 2025)! And Random Acts of Kindness Day (Feb. 17, 2025) is approaching fast. The Office of Employee Wellness and Wellbeing (OEWW) encourages you to reflect on how kindness can strengthen our community. In times of global, national and local challenges, simple acts of kindness can serve as a beacon of hope reminding us of our shared humanity.
The Power of Kindness in Times of Uncertainty
Research supports the benefits of kindness, showing that even small gestures can reduce stress, enhance mood, and strengthen relationships. Acts of kindness release oxytocin, sometimes called the “love hormone,” which helps regulate emotions and fosters a sense of belonging. In times of crisis, kindness can also be a grounding force, helping us shift our focus from fear and uncertainty to action and hope.
Practical Ways to Cultivate Kindness
Practice Kindness in Your Daily Routine:
-
- A simple check-in or an encouraging message to a colleague can make a significant difference for someone facing stress or uncertainty.
- Share helpful resources or insights that have supported your own journey and help you navigate difficult times.
- Listen with empathy and without judgment.
- Participate in NOVA kindness opportunities such as making donations to the Nighthawk Nest Food Pantry or visiting the Office of Wellness and Mental Health (OWMH) sponsored Random Acts of Kindness Resource Tables.
Practice self-compassion through activities that nourish your wellbeing. For example, access the full range of resources to support your wellbeing:
- EAP (Employee Assistance Program, available through all college health insurance plans)
- TimelyCare Employee.
- OEWW Resources for Employees Who Are Struggling or in Crisis.
Small acts of kindness create ripples of hope. What kindness will you share today?
