Walk with ease for kidney health

March 10, 2025 / Get Well

Wow! Look at you! Great job on Week 2! By now, you’ve started building a solid walking routine. As we step into Week 3 of the Walk with Ease challenge, let’s focus on an important health topic: kidney health.

March 13 is World Kidney Day, and March is National Kidney Month. Walking is a fantastic way to support kidney function, improve circulation and help manage conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes—two of the leading causes of kidney disease.

This Monday’s tip: Walk for kidney health!
Support your kidneys by maintaining an active lifestyle and making health-smart choices. Here are some simple steps to boost your kidney health:

Stay hydrated. Drinking enough water helps flush toxins from your body and supports kidney function.
Monitor your blood pressure. Walking helps regulate blood pressure, reducing strain on your kidneys.
Eat a balanced diet. Limit processed foods and opt for kidney-friendly choices like leafy greens, berries and whole grains.
Get moving! Regular walks improve circulation and can help prevent kidney disease. Get moving now to be prepped and ready for Spring 2025 NOVA Walk Week!

Week 3 checklist: Keep up the momentum!

✅ Log your Week 2 progress in the WWE Portal. Tracking your steps, minutes and effort keeps you motivated!
✅ Read Chapter 3 for expert strategies on maximizing your walks.
✅ Track your distance and time in your Walking Diary.
✅ Watch the Week 3 video.
✅ Find new places to walk using Virginia’s Arthritis-Friendly Parks & Trails Map.

Keep moving, stay strong, and make walking a lifelong habit!
