NOVAnext to offer tuition-free training to unemployed feds
NOVA has created and launched NOVA New Employment, Exploration and Transition, or NOVAnext, to provide training and other resources at no cost to unemployed federal workers and federal contractors seeking to transition to their next careers.
Why it matters: Many Northern Virginians are facing sudden and unexpected changes in their professional lives as a result of recent federal government layoffs.
The big picture: NOVA is committing up to $1 million in scholarship aid to allow approved participants to enroll in one of 14 classes at no charge. It is the first effort in the region to provide new, dedicated training funds for unemployed federal workers and federal contractors.
NOVAnext is a partnership with the Alexandria/Arlington Regional Workforce Council, Virginia Career Works Northern Region and the Northern Virginia Chamber.
What’s next: NOVA will seek to expand the partnership by inviting local and regional businesses to participate in NOVAnext by connecting dislocated workers to new employment and other resources.
