Reception for “Investigating Identity” exhibit, April 12
When artists turn their gaze to themselves, what do they examine? How do they express their sense of self to others? Come experience artwork that explores identity through ideas like race, gender, religion, nationalism and others. In “Investigating Identity,” art students were encouraged to examine their growth as artists as well as their understandings of such elements of identity as community, culture, interest and perspective.
The show, a joint effort between NOVA and George Mason University juried by local artist Mary Higgins, is open from March 29 through May 3 at Lorton’s Workhouse Arts Center (9518 Workhouse Way, Lorton, VA 22079). An open reception for “Investigating Identity” will be held on Saturday, April 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the McGuireWoods Gallery (second floor, Building W-16). Join students, staff and faculty from NOVA and George Mason for refreshments and an award presentation.
